I’ve got 1-85, 1-84 and 2 other toons 81 or higher. Here are the steps I have found, through trail-and-error, on the best way to get to 85. I don’t mean the fastest way, you can probably find power-leveling guides online for that. No, I mean this is the best way I have found, with your focus being on End-Game Raiding. All of these steps will get you closer to being ready for Heroics and Raids once you hit 85.

At 80, go to Orgrimmar and get these 2 quests:
Warchief’s Command: Vashj’ir!
Warchief’s Command: Mount Hyjal!

Start at Vashj’ir and go until you get the quest for the Abyssal Seahorse. Ride the Seahorse to the Throne of Tides so that you can discover the entrance. This Seahorse adds to your mount collection, even though you can only use it in Vashj’ir and these quests will get you started on the Earthen Ring faction rep.

At 82, go back to Orgrimmar and get Warchief’s Command: Deepholm! – I suggest doing all the quests in Deepholm so that you can unlock the Therazane area for their daily quests and Quartermaster. You can buy their tabard and wear it in 85 dungeons to obtain rep. Therazane contains the Shoulder Enchants for Level 85 toons, you get a low one at honored and the Greater version at Exalted. This is basically the replacement for Sons of Hodir enchants in WotLK.

At 83, head back to Orgrimmar again and get Warchief’s Command: Uldum!. Do as many quests as you need to in order to reach a Friendly status with Ramkahen. Friendly status will let you buy their tabard to wear in dungeons also. There is only 1 daily quest for this faction that I have been able to find, so grinding these quests is suggested. This was my favorite area in the new expansion, due to the Indiana Jones theme throughout the zone.

At 84, for the last time, head back to Orgrimmar and pickup Warchief’s Command: Twilight Highlands! - Do the opening quest line that gets you Friendly with Dragonmaw. This will open up some daily quests and phase you into some new areas you won’t be able to see without completing the quest line. There are several daily quests for this faction also, so you don’t really need to grind on them as you do Uldum, but the quests in this zone are fun also.

You will need an average gear-item level of 329 in order to queue in LFD for Heroics. The only way to get Justice Points at 85 is to run the first daily dungeon every day for 70JP. You can also do the weekly raid in Dalaran for 178JP, but until you get to Cataclysm Heroics, this will be about all you can get, so be sure and get as many as you can. Rep with the 5 new factions will get you some epics once you get to exalted, so search the Quartermasters in each faction to find the best gear for your class and spec. The highest 2 or 3 regular-mode dungeons drop level 333 gear, so I suggest running those for all the boss drops that you can get, even if you have already done the daily on that particular day.

I’ll make some more updates as I have them, but this is a good starting plan for most everyone, imo.

I wanted to write a post that lists my toons and their levels at the time of the Cataclysm release. I wish that I had done this when Lich King dropped, but I never thought about it. So here goes:

The Warrior – 80
The Mage – 80
Launch, My Shaman – 80
The Paladin – 80
The Druid – newest 80, only hit 80 about a month before
The Hunter – just hit 70
The Deathknight – 68
The Warlock - 79. He is on my 2nd account right now, and I rarely play him
The Priest – 70 and holding. I turned off XP on him to run him in BC heroics, just for something different to do. However, I haven’t logged him in for about 2-3 months.
The Rogue - my lowbie. 42 at the time of this post.

I also have a lowbie Shaman who is 40, and a new Goblin Warrior that I just started to do the beginning Goblin quests. Some of us in the guild have started some new toons with plans to do dungeons on them for all the guild dungeon achievements, which should be quite fun.

I’m sorry that I haven’t posted in the last week, I have spent most of my time leveling my Shaman in Cataclysm. I’ll be posting more in the days and weeks to come.

I hit 85 on my Shammy last Thursday, 2 days after release. I saw some 85s Tuesdays evening, so I wasn’t the quickest by far, but I think that 2 days was a good time to level all the way up. I did notice some interesting facts about the amount of XP you needed to get from 80-85, which I will list below.

80-82 is fairly easy. I was surprised that the XP needed between these levels wasn’t more, honestly. I was expecting a much longer grind.

82-83 requires 4million XP, which is twice the amount you need to get from 81-82. This is where I slowed down some. I headed straight to Deepholm after dinging 82, in attempts to get the higher level XP-rewarding quests. I finished all the quests in Deepholm for the achievement Deep Into Deepholm.

83-84 requires about 5.2million XP. I was thankful that the number didn’t double again. This grind seemed less agonizing to me because I was expecting more XP after considering the jump from 82-83. I spent most of this time in Uldum and I finished all these quests also for Unearthing Uldum.

84-85 requires 9.1million XP. Of course this seems like a large amount, but the quest rewards give greater XP also. After I finished the Uldum Quest achievement, I went to Twilight Highlands. You need 95 quests for this achievement, but I dinged 85 while I was about 70 quests into it. Of course I ran some dungeons while leveling also. I did go back later, actually earlier today, and obtain the quest achievement Fading into Twilight.

Now it’s time to get my Warrior to 85. He is 82 right now. I’ll post about him later.

By Championing the Bilgewater Cartel faction’s tabard, I was able to get exalted with the faction in about 2 days. I didn’t really count the exact number of heroics I ran, but it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-25. A guildy told me that 25 heroics were needed, according to what he had read online, and that is probably about right. Some of the dungeons we ran last night, we only partially ran, because we were going for the Glory of The Hero achievements, and the left the dungeon after getting those done. I would estimate that I did 25 heroics total, but that wasn’t with completing all of them.

After gaining on Exalted status with Bilgewater Cartel, I was able to purchase the only 2 mounts they have in the game right now, which are the Trike and Epic Trike, the 60% mount and the 100% mount.

Yesterday I logged into the game and headed to Orgrimmar to await the event to defend the city. I took some screen shots of the event, both before and during. There were probably 70-80 people in Org, waiting for the event to start around 7pm Server Time, yesterday evening. It was enough to fill 2 full raids, at least.

When the events starts, your first task is to put up barricades around Orgrimmar. This is done by clicking on boxes at random places, and then moving the barricades towards the front entrance. After this is done, you move around to each of the sections of the city to destroy the rifts where Elementals are spawning from. Once each section of the city is secured, and all the Elementals are dead, the event ends. Sadly, there is no Achievement or Feat of Strength for this completion.

During the entire event, you have a timer at the top of your screen that shows your status, similar to those you will see in Battlegrounds. Once these are done, you know the event is over.

Afterwards, 2 new options appear in your Dungeon Finder. These are both single boss fights; one is the Fire Elemental inside of BRD and the other is the last boss, Princess, in Maraudon. Both bosses, and surrounding mobs, have been upgraded to Level 81-82 mobs, but are easily killable with a good group. The mobs around the fire boss will silence you, so healers be careful.

Both bosses drop iLVL 251 gear, which is new.

Here are some screen shots from Orgrimmar, yesterday around 7pmST.

While working toward The Diplomat achievment, I obtained exalted status with Timbermaw hold today. The grind is a fairly easy one.

Start with these quests, and follow the questlines that they produce:
Timbermaw Ally
Deadwood of the North

While completing these quests you will gain rep for killing the NPCs the quest requires. Once you turn in these quests, you will be able to obtain Deadwood Headdress Feathers, which can later be turned in for rep (5 feathers for 300 rep). My suggestion is to hang onto these feathers until you complete all the quests and keep killing NPCs until you get to Revered status. At Revered, the NPCs will no longer give you rep, so the only way to get from Revered to Exalted is to turn in these feathers. (you can also do the beads in Winterspring, see this link)

I kept killing NPCs and saved all my feathers. After I hit Revered, I calculated that I needed 366 feathers to get from Revered to Exalted. I finished my grind today, and hit the Exalted status with this faction.

Now onto grinding rep with Sporeggar to finish my achievement for “The Diplomat”

A week ago Friday, I ran my paladin healer in a ICC10 run with some guildies and some other PUGs that were friends of guildies. We virtually annihilated the first 3 wings of the raid, 1-shot Valithria and if I recall correctly, we died once on Sindragosa but killed her on the 2nd attempt. We made a few attempts on the Lich King that night and got him down to ~45% twice, but decided to give up because some people had to sign off for the night. We extended the raid and came back solely for the Lich King fight on Friday the 17th.

Of course, I wanted Kingslayer on my Shaman first, so I took him to the extension rather than my Paladin. There wasn’t a Shaman in the group the previous week, so it was nice to have Bloodlust anyway.

We spent about 1.2 hours in the raid, learning the fight and the 3rd phase (mostly that was the phase that no one had seen) and finally killed him. So yea, now my Shaman is Launch The Kingslayer ! Woo-hoo!

Last night we put together a guild run and completed The Undying run in Naxxramus. The Undying is a title awarded when you complete the achievement “The Undying” ; within one raid lockout period, defeat every boss in Naxxramas on Normal Difficulty without allowing any raid member to die during any of the boss encounters.

The only encounter I was truly worried about was The Safety Dance. We had a couple of group members who hadn’t successfully done this achievement before, so we had them wait outside the door while 6 or 7 of the rest of us went to kill the boss. We took very little damage overall, thanks to our very over-geared Gearscore (most of use are ICC25 geared) and thanks to a Nature Resistance Shammy totem and some really good healers.

The entire event took us about 2 hours, which is ironic because Naxxramus used to be an all-night raid, or maybe even spread out over a couple of nights, 2-3 hours each. The run was quite fun and I am thinking of setting it up again for the guild to do with other toons, perhaps several more times. With a full clear of Naxxramus on 10man mode, every toon also loots about 300g, so the entire night was quite profitable.
