We’ll kick things off by clearing up some rumors or important questions that I have heard floating around. First, it looks like rested XP will be wiped on release:

“Just in case anyone was thinking about stopping an alt just short of 80 for rested XP…”
From Valnoth
Rested experience will be reset at launch. You will start at 0 rested.
Lead World Designer

In part 2, some readers had pointed out that daily quests may no longer provide XP once Cataclysm hits. Blizzard recently smashed this rumor in an interview with BestBuy:

“Will you allow players to fill their quest log with say, 25 dailies, and then turn them in right after Midnight on December 7th to get a quick boost towards 85? This is how it worked in the beta, but some players are confused on whether it will work on Live. Thanks!”
Regarding 25 daily quests to turn in when the expansion goes live, this is something players have been able to do for the last 2 expansions and we aren’t talking about changing it now.

Remember, launch is actually on Monday, at the stroke of midnight, so make sure to book Tuesday off! Launch will occur simultaneously across the US at 12am Pacific, or 3am Eastern. Don’t get your time zones mixed up!

“Wondering exactly what time you’ll be able to begin playing your goblin or worgen or making your way to level 85? On all North American realms, World of Warcraft players who upgrade to Cataclysm will be able to begin experiencing the new content at 12 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (3 a.m. Eastern Standard Time) on December 7, whether they purchase the digital download through Battle.net or buy a physical retail boxed version in stores. Players will not be able to access Cataclysm expansion content prior to 12 a.m. PST, regardless of how they upgrade or what time zone they’re located in.”

A week ago Friday, I ran my paladin healer in a ICC10 run with some guildies and some other PUGs that were friends of guildies. We virtually annihilated the first 3 wings of the raid, 1-shot Valithria and if I recall correctly, we died once on Sindragosa but killed her on the 2nd attempt. We made a few attempts on the Lich King that night and got him down to ~45% twice, but decided to give up because some people had to sign off for the night. We extended the raid and came back solely for the Lich King fight on Friday the 17th.

Of course, I wanted Kingslayer on my Shaman first, so I took him to the extension rather than my Paladin. There wasn’t a Shaman in the group the previous week, so it was nice to have Bloodlust anyway.

We spent about 1.2 hours in the raid, learning the fight and the 3rd phase (mostly that was the phase that no one had seen) and finally killed him. So yea, now my Shaman is Launch The Kingslayer ! Woo-hoo!

So The Warrior went and ran 25-man VoA after we won WG on Saturday. My plan wasn’t to go, but I got invited, so I went. I have run this before on The Warrior, so it isn’t new to him (I’ve run it many times on my healer, so I know the dungeon..) but I haven’t run the new boss yet with The Warrior.

We go in and kill all the trash, then kill Archavon and some nice plate pants drop for me, which I won the roll on. However, they threw up the DPS meter and I was around 1100 DPS, right at the bottom of the list. I beat the tank, but that was all. And of course this is a pug group, so everyone starts complaining about me and a couple of other low DPSers. And honestly, I cannot blame them, one reason I stopped playing this toon is because his DPS sucks. And it is next to impossible to find RAID runs with a non-geared DPS Fury Warrior. Most groups want me to tank, and I absolutely hate tanking with a warrior, so I never want to do that, and no one wants a non-geared warrior. I have run some heroics and I do have a few epic pieces, but still… no one wants a warrior. So I stopped playing him, and this weekend, I was reminded why.

And its ok, I am not upset about it, I know his DPS sucks. My plan is to get The Mage to 80, he is almost 71 right now, and he will be my main DPS.

Yes, the Warrior hit Level 77 last night. It costs 1000g to get Cold Weather Flying from the trainer, who is right next to the Flight Master in Dalaran. Once you get this, you can use your previous flying mount from Outlands in Northrend.

As a follow-up to a comment in my previous post about Northrend Gear… I have noticed a significant difference between The Warrior, who wears Plate, and The Warlock, who is now 71 and a Cloth Wearer. There seems to be a larger abundance of Cloth gear in Northrend, than Plate gear. This was also true when I first got to Outlands, it was frustrating because most of the Plate was Paladin gear, having Intellect and Spell Power/Healing buffs. So Warrior Plate seems to be in shirt supply, so if you are leveling a Warrior, go get some Level 70 Purples from Karazhan or other BC instances, it will last you a long time in Northrend.

One funny part about Northrend flying is that there are “No Fly Zones” so when you enter one of these, it pops a message on your screen and tells you that you will dismounted, then it kicks you off about 10 seconds later. This happens inside the City of Dalaran also, you can only fly near the Flight Master.

Last night a friend, who accepted an invite to join WoW that I sent him, and I ran quests in Stonetalon Mountains. The recruit-a-friend program is nice because it gives you TRIPLE XP for any mobs killed, AND for Quest turn-ins. So at levels 20-25, it is normal to get around 6000-9000 XP for a quest completion.

This also works well in Instance runs, getting you triple XP for mobs killed. It is nice to have a 70 run you through quickly, a few times.

One thing that I noticed about the triple XP is that is apparently doesn’t take away from your Rest Bonus. My rest bonus at the beginning of the night was 150% and after leveling twice from grinding and from quest turn-ins I was only down to 130% rest at the end of the night. It seems to take away the NORMAL percentage of rest you would get from not being on the recruit-a-friend program, but it doesn’t take away triple percentages. This is nice, it basically means that I could be rested all the way up to 60 when Triple XP ends.

Some nice features of the Refer-a-Friend promotion are:

Triple XP on grinding and quests

Summon your friend anywhere in the game, 1 hour cooldown
When your friend has paid for his first month, YOU get a free month
When your friend has paid for his 2nd month, You’ve earned an exclusive in-game mount.

Hi, thanks for visiting my new site. I just wanted to take a few minutes and give a little background on who I am and on what this site will be used for.

First, I am fairly new to World of Warcraft, I have been playing for only about 5 months. I started as Horde with an Undead Warrior, and since have created several new toons and played most of them up to higher levels. My Warrior is a 70, but right now he is the only 70 I have.

I’ll be posting these posts under the name of Bluepumpkin. Bluepumpkin is a Level 5 Troll Mage that you will see in Orgrimmar, running back and forth between the bank, the mailbox and the auction house. He is on just about every day, so if you ever see how, PST me and say hello.\

But… as far as the rest of my toons go… I will not be giving any names. Posts on this blog will be very opinionated, with my view of happenings in Azgalor. Think of it as the daily news… (yes, I am on just about every day)

Your comments are welcome, especially if you don’t agree with something I say. I am not writing this blog as a complaint forum, but at the same time, I will give my honest opinion about nearly everything I write, so there will probably be tension at times.

Also, if you want to trade links, feel free to comment in here, or PST Bluepumpkin in the game. I will be happy to add you to the blogroll.

See everyone in Azgalor!
